Chong Siew Ying, born in 1969 in Kuala Lumpur, is a renowned Malaysian painter acclaimed for her dynamic gestural brushstrokes and expressive compositions. Her artwork delves into expansive themes such as nature, human emotions, connections, homeland, and belonging, often drawing on literary themes and concepts.
Chong's artistic journey took a significant turn when she moved to France in 1990 to pursue her education in Fine Art. She studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles and later honed her printmaking skills at the Atelier63 in Paris. After completing her studies, Chong returned to Malaysia in 1998, marking her homecoming with her first solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.
Between 2000 and 2001, Chong's artistic exploration led her to the United States, where she spent seven months in New York City and two months at the Vermont Studio Center. This period in the USA enriched her artistic experience and broadened her perspectives. Following her time in the States, she returned to Paris and continued to split her time between Paris and Kuala Lumpur until 2011. Since then, she has settled permanently in Kuala Lumpur.
Throughout her career, Chong Siew Ying has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and the USA, earning her recognition and acclaim in the international art scene.
