Shafiq Nordin, a Malaysian artist born in 1989 in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, is known for his hard-hitting works that critique power dynamics and societal injustices. Influenced by artists like Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, and Yuko Shimizu, Shafiq's art features bold, thick outlines and grotesque depictions of exploitative forces and corruption.
He continuously evolves his creative style, blending personal experiences, events around him, and films he has watched. Shafiq's unique voice combines satire with strong imagery, challenging viewers to confront global issues.
His work has been showcased internationally, participating in exhibitions and art fairs across countries such as Germany, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Istanbul, and France. In 2021, his international presence continued to grow, sharing his impactful art worldwide.


 

Raphael Scott Ahbeng was a highly regarded Bornean artist from Bau, Sarawak, Malaysia, born in 1939. His talent and passion for art led him to pursue studies in the United Kingdom at the age of 16, where he completed an Art Specialist Teaching course at Bath Academy of Arts and a drama course in London in 1973.
Before fully dedicating himself to his art career, Ahbeng worked as a broadcaster for RTM and contributed as a cartoonist and columnist for the Sarawak Tribune's ‘Beng’s Sunday’ in the 1980s. His artistic achievements include winning first prize in the Sarawak Shell Open art competition three times: in 1959, 1982, and 1983. Additionally, he secured third place in the Natural Malaysia art competition in 1991.
Ahbeng also made a significant impact on the local art community, serving as an advisor to the Sarawak Artists Society from 1999 to 2000. His legacy as an influential figure in Bornean art is remembered for his unique style and dedication to the cultural heritage of Malaysia. Raphael Scott Ahbeng passed away in 2015, leaving behind a lasting imprint on the world of art.
