Yap Chin Hoe is a Malaysian artist who has been dedicated to his craft since his graduation from the Malaysian Institute of Arts in 1991. He pursued a Double Major in Oil Painting & Print Making during his academic journey.
Throughout his career, Yap Chin Hoe has developed a unique and distinctive artistic style. His work focuses on a series centered around antique Chinese porcelain as the primary subject matter. However, he adds a modern twist to these traditional objects, infusing them with contemporary elements to evoke a sense of nostalgia.
Yap Chin Hoe's artistic technique is characterized by intricate brushwork, which he uses to capture the ethereal essence of antique porcelain. He juxtaposes these delicate and often monochromatic porcelain pieces with vividly colored Nyonya tapestries. This combination serves to contrast the austerity of the classic blue and white Chinese porcelain with the vibrant and flamboyant Nyonya tapestry.
The result of Yap Chin Hoe's artistic approach is a fusion of past and present, tradition and modernity. His work conjures images of lively Peranakan celebrations where these flamboyant tapestries are paired with equally striking and historically rich Chinese wares.
