Born in Perak in 1948, Yeong Seak Ling is a highly regarded artist in the Malaysian art scene, celebrated for his mastery of the watercolor technique. Despite being a self-taught artist, Yeong has left an indelible mark through his artistic prowess and his efforts in fostering artistic communities.
Yeong's influence extends through various art associations that he established over the years. In 1977, he founded the Utara Art Group, a platform that showcased his commitment to creating a supportive network for artists. In 2003, he further expanded his reach with the establishment of The Art Group Penang, demonstrating his dedication to the growth of the local art scene. In 2008, he founded Art Group International, connecting artists on an international scale and promoting cultural exchange.
As a testament to his dedication to watercolor art, Yeong Seak Ling played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Penang Water Colour Society in 1982. This society has been instrumental in the promotion and development of watercolor as a respected art form in Malaysia.
In 1996, Yeong took another significant step by founding Art Point Gallery in Penang. This gallery serves as a platform for artists to exhibit their works, contributing to the vibrant artistic culture of the region.
Yeong Seak Ling's artistic journey gained early recognition when he clinched the third prize in the Salon Malaysia 1966 competition. ~Tew Nai Tong~She Like Flowers 1999~Oil on Canvas~70x70 cm~( This painting is now available in our shop anyone interested pls call or whatsapp Lanie 014 2427760)
Tew Nai Tong, born in 1936 in Klang, Malaysia, left an indelible mark on the Malaysian art scene, earning recognition as "perhaps the last matinee idol of the old Nanyang style," according to esteemed art critic Ooi Kok Chuen. His artistic journey, spanning from his formative years to his later contributions, showcases a unique blend of influences and a commitment to artistic evolution.
Nai Tong embarked on his artistic education at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), graduating in 1958. Following the tradition of many NAFA graduates, he sought further inspiration and honed his skills at the École des Beaux-Arts in France. This experience marked a pivotal shift in his focus—from creating sketches and watercolor paintings of landscapes at NAFA to exploring the realm of figurative oil paintings in France.
Returning to Malaysia in 1969, Tew Nai Tong joined the Malaysian Institute of Art as a lecturer, bringing his enriched artistic perspective to the local art community. His tenure at the institute not only contributed to the education of aspiring artists but also allowed him to further develop his own artistic voice.
Nai Tong's body of work is a testament to the fusion of Nanyang and European influences. His earlier emphasis on landscapes transformed into a dedication to figurative oil paintings, reflecting the evolution of his artistic expression. The synthesis of these diverse influences contributed to the richness and depth of his portfolio.
The legacy of Tew Nai Tong endures through the recognition of his art in prestigious collections. His paintings can be found in the National Art Gallery of Malaysia, the Sarawak State Museum, and the Singapore Art Museum, underscoring the widespread impact of his contributions to the cultural heritage of the region.
In commemorating Tew Nai Tong, we celebrate not only an artist but a bridge between artistic traditions. His ability to seamlessly integrate Nanyang and European styles serves as an inspiration for future generations, emphasizing the importance of embracing diverse influences in the pursuit of artistic excellence.

Ahmad Shukri-1998-mixed media on canvas-72x73 cm-.....
Ahmad Shukri Mohamed's artistic journey unfolds
as a captivating evolution, navigating from the realms of traditional painting
to a dynamic fusion of texture, three-dimensionality, and mixed media. The
early chapters, epitomized by the "Hope, Dishonest" series, reflect a
departure from the pristine canvas, employing playful collage techniques and
vivid imagery to delve into societal hierarchies.
Under the guiding influence of mentor Fauzan Omar, Ahmad Shukri
embraces the realms of deconstruction and collage, evident in later
masterpieces like "Camouflage II." This work, a commentary on
nature's exploitation, ingeniously combines silkscreen with mounted
butterflies, introducing recognizable motifs such as butterflies and chess
pieces that contribute to the establishment of an "international
style."
Beyond the surface allure of glossy varnishes, Shukri's art
harbors a potent social commentary, addressing contemporary issues like the
pitfalls of modern entertainment and the meteoric rise of instant celebrity culture,
notably encapsulated in the evocative "Kedai Hiburan" series.
Personal experiences are laid bare in pieces like "Timer Bomb," where
Electrocardiogram prints and references to the 2004 tsunami tragedy infuse his
emotions into the canvas.
In his recent works, a noticeable shift towards simplicity
unfolds, featuring exposed backgrounds and artistic spontaneity. Ahmad Shukri's
art transcends mere visual engagement; it weaves a rich tapestry of societal
reflections and personal narratives, rendering it not only accessible but
profoundly thought-provoking. Each piece invites the viewer on a visual and
emotional journey, exploring the layers of meaning and complexity within the
artist's evolving oeuvre.

This painting by Lim Kim Hai is now available in our gallery..Anyone interested pls call or whatsapp Lanie 014 2427760
Lim Kim Hai, the iconic Malaysian art master born in 1950, embarked on a profound artistic journey that revolves around a singular subject—apples. His canvas becomes a realm where plump and thriving life is symbolized by the sturdy and durable apples. Through skillful strokes, he imparts a sheen and angle to each apple, creating a floating illusion that extends into an infinite space on the 2D canvas.
For Lim Kim Hai, each brushstroke is a metaphor for life's journey, replete with uncertainties and challenges. His commitment to a constant exploration of apples reflects not only the challenges inherent in the artistic process but also the broader challenges of existence. The apples, varying in their resilience and sheen, serve as a visual narrative for the diverse experiences one encounters on the path of life.
Having studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Art in Paris, Lim Kim Hai's artistic prowess gained international acclaim. Awards such as the Golden Award from Salon des Artists Fancais in 1982, Silver from Salon Internationale, Du Val D’Or, France in 1984, and Prix Henri Lehman from Institut de France, Academy des Beaux in 1986, attest to the recognition of his artistic contribution.
Lim Kim Hai's impact extends beyond accolades; major financial institutions such as Hong Leong Bank Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, RHB Bank Berhad, and United Overseas Bank Limited have acquired his paintings. The Embassy of France in Singapore also holds his work in high regard, further solidifying his position in the global art scene.
Lim Kim Hai's life mission in his art journey is to delve into the depths of a single subject—apples. This dedication is not only a testament to his artistic prowess but also a commitment to providing viewers with a sustained exploration of his unique perspective on life. Through the lens of apples, Lim Kim Hai invites us to contemplate the complexities, uncertainties, and thriving resilience inherent in the human experience.
Lim Kim Hai's artistic journey transcends the canvas; it is a profound exploration of life, intricately woven into each stroke that breathes life into the apple. The fruit becomes a vessel for the human spirit and a reflection of life's purpose, its many shapes and colors weaving a symbolic narrative of the myriad circumstances and situations that define our existence.
In the vivid palette of my art, the blood-red apple emerges, a poignant symbol of violence, echoing the challenges and struggles inherent in the human experience. Alongside it, the tender green variety exudes the bashfulness of youth, mirroring the universal journey of confronting challenges in the relentless pursuit of survival in the real world.
The question lingers: why do I persist in painting apples throughout the years? The answer lies in a special affinity I hold for this fruit—a constant companion that has witnessed every chapter of my life. Whether in the tumultuous times preceding my commitment to art as a profession or in the present, where I stand as a full-time artist, the apple remains a steadfast presence, an anchor through the ebb and flow of life.
More than a subject on canvas, the apple becomes a mirror to my own evolution. It encapsulates the moments of uncertainty and the triumphs that mark my personal journey. Each brushstroke not only explores the nuances of the apple but also embarks on a reflective journey through the layers of my own existence.
This enduring connection with the apple transcends the artistic realm; it is a personal odyssey, a visual diary of growth and resilience. As I continue to paint this familiar fruit, I celebrate not only its symbolic richness but also the enduring bond it shares with the intricate threads of my own life. The apple, in its simplicity, becomes a profound reflection of the artist's soul, a testament to the resilience and beauty found in embracing life's ever-changing seasons.

This painting by Datuk Ibrahim Hussein is now available in our gallery, anyone interested pls call or whatsapp Lanie 014 2427760 ( COLLECTED )
Datuk Ibrahim Hussein, born in a humble rural village in Kedah, Malaysia, in 1936, emerged as a distinguished artist and cultural icon whose life journey exemplifies resilience, creativity, and a commitment to societal betterment through art.
Despite facing adversity, including a childhood accident that left him blind in one eye, Ibrahim's determination as a young student was evident. His early talent in the arts caught the attention of a British colonial administrator who sponsored his high school education, setting the stage for his remarkable artistic journey.
In 1956, Ibrahim embarked on focused studies at the Nangyang Academy of Fine Arts, followed by a transformative period at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, supported by a prestigious scholarship. His artistic pursuits continued at the Royal Academy Schools, where he sustained himself through odd jobs, including work as a postman and a movie extra.
Ibrahim's extensive travels fueled his artistic inspiration, and each new environment left an indelible mark on his work. Notably, the bustling billboards of New York inspired him to pioneer the printage technique, a unique blend of printmaking and collage. Upon returning to Malaysia, he seamlessly integrated natural elements like woods, reflecting the lush rainforests, into his creations.
His art took a poignant turn in response to the Malay-Chinese race riots of 1969. Witnessing the turmoil, Ibrahim created the powerful work "May 13" on a torn flag, a piece that nearly led to imprisonment. He passionately defended his creation as a plea for humanity, ultimately securing its preservation within the country but under the condition that it never be sold or removed.
Ibrahim's ability to cultivate friendships with influential figures, including a lifelong bond with the Sultan of Selangor, contributed to his artistic success. Generosity from a wealthy art collector during his studies in London and a string of prestigious awards, including the World Economic Forum's Crystal Award for cultural influence, further underscored his global impact.
One of Ibrahim's enduring legacies is the Ibrahim Hussein Museum and Cultural Foundation, a non-profit organization nestled in the Langkawi rainforest. The foundation, a culmination of years of hard work with minimal environmental impact, stands as a testament to his commitment to spreading art and culture. Following his passing in 2009, his wife, Sim, and daughter, Alia, continue to steward his foundation, ensuring that Ibrahim's dream of raising awareness and unity through art lives on.
In the tapestry of Malaysian art and culture, Datuk Ibrahim Hussein's contributions shine brightly, reflecting not only his artistic brilliance but also his unwavering dedication to using art as a catalyst for positive change.
