Calvin Chua Cheng Koon, born in 1961 in Northern Malaysia, is a distinguished artist with a significant presence in the Southeast Asian art community. Since his graduation from the Kuala Lumpur College of Arts in the early 1980s, Calvin has devoted his entire career to the pursuit of artistry. Throughout his extensive artistic journey, he has actively participated in numerous international art events and exhibitions, showcasing his works in countries such as Malaysia, Belgium, China, Brazil, Sweden, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, and Indonesia.
Calvin's artistic talents have earned him notable recognition, including the prestigious Malaysian Young Contemporaries Award and the Yayasan Seni Selangor Award. He holds esteemed positions within various art societies, notably as the Chairman of the Malaysian Watercolour Society. In addition, he is a distinguished member of the Singapore Watercolour Society and holds the title of Signature Member within the National Watercolor Society.
With a mastery of various artistic mediums, encompassing watercolor, oil, acrylic, and ink, Calvin's artistic repertoire spans a diverse array of subjects, from portraiture to scene portrayal. His works often revolve around the daily lives of the Malaysian community and their intricate interactions with the natural world. As a passionate traveler, Calvin draws inspiration from his journeys, infusing his art with a profound sense of exploration and discovery.
Calvin Chua Cheng Koon has graced the art world with a total of twelve solo exhibitions to date, providing a platform to present his unique artistic style and vision. His artworks are highly coveted and have found their place in the collections of prestigious organizations and institutions such as the Central Bank of Malaysia, Deutsche Bank, Malayan Banking Berhad, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, among others. These accomplishments underscore his indelible mark and influence in the realm of art.
